Those things are the size and feel of watermelons but idk what they are
The hotel is very quiet because no tourists – people are still afraid of visiting Lombok after the EQ
The heavy walls and roof tiles didn’t mix well with the earthquake. Many people have realized they need to rebuild with wood not stone

There were three earthquakes last summer within about a month of each other
The second was the worst
Many people still won’t sleep in their houses out of fear of another earthquake
So they sleep outside.
One earthquake was during the day during mosque services and a lot of people died in collapsing mosques
Another was during the night which was lucky because many schools collapsed
Those kids still go to school in tents
Some houses are rebuilt but I’ve seen some shantytowns too

The government has offered a sum of money to each family whose house was destroyed to rebuild but it’s coming in slowly so many are opting to dip into their own funds if they can afford it

Many building owners chose to just spackle (sp?) and repaint the cracked walls, even though the building’s structural integrity has totally been compromised. This is a school.
